Mar  31  Merengue
Merengue originated in late 1800’s in the Dominican Republic.  Now Merengue is popular all over the world.  The rhythm and the movements are more important then specific steps leaving the dance open to a lot of spontaneity and play between the dancers.  Learn how to have fun with this easy to learn dance!  No partner or dance experience required.
Apr 07    Puerto Rican Bomba
Bomba is a Puerto Rican folkloric dance that first developed in the late 17th century as a way for slaves to continue to worship their African gods once their religion had been banned.  The dance involves a call and answer between the drums and the dancers and its movements typically revolved around events in the community.  This is one of the dances that Salsa steals its body movement from.  No partner or dance experience required.
Apr 14    Puerto Rican Plena
The Plena is an important folkloric dance of Puerto Rico.  The music may have originated as early as the late 1800’s with the dance being added in the1920s.  It was referred to as the “singing newspaper” and related events of the day from town to town.  Come and learn this fun couples dance that is tied to the roots of Salsa dancing.  No partner or dance experience required.
