THEATRE SHOW UPDATE

Thanks to everyone that came to our first ever Theatre Showcase & Dance Party. The sold out event was a great success! Special thanks to all of the dancers and everyone that helped out behind the scenes. Everyone did a great job. The event featured Salsa, Cha Cha Cha and even Plena with brand new routines by over 25 dancers from all 4 of our teams. Even though it was one of the hottest days of the year and the theatre was very warm, we stayed and danced up a storm at the after party. If you missed out, you missed a great time! Be sure to watch for our next party and get your tickets early...

NY SALSA CONGRESS & SEPTEMBER 01- 07 CLASS SCHEDULE

Salsa Caliente's Touring Team and Ladies Team are off to the 10th anniversary of the New York Salsa Congress from September 01- 07. We will be performing both of our routines on the Friday and you can follow our trip on our blog. Our itinerary is posted now and we'll be sending you updates and photos throughout the trip. You can send us messages too!

We have shown the Training Team what to teach for us while we are gone and they will be taking you through all of your classes. Please see the schedule below.

The Bachata class on Sept 2 will be cancelled and replaced by a practice time. Bachata music will be played and this is a great opportunity to work on what you have been learning, so grab you fellow students and come down for some dancing free of charge! ($2 min at the cafe still in effect). Bachata will continue on Sept 9 and the series will be extended by one week.

The Beg Int Salsa On 1 class on Sept 7 will be cancelled and replaced by a practice time. Salsa music will be played and this is a great opportunity to work on what you have been learning, so grab you fellow students and come down for some dancing free of charge! ($2 min at the cafe still in effect). Beg Int Salsa On 1 will continue on Sept 14.

The rest of the class and rehearsal schedule will remain unchanged and classes will run as scheduled. (All classes are held at Cafe Casablanca, 2524 Bridge St)

6:30- 7:30pm      Fundamentals of Salsa On 2 running as scheduled

Thursday, September 02
5:00- 6:00pm     There will be no Bachata class- Bachata practice time instead
8:00- 9:00pm     Intermediate Salsa On 1 running as scheduled
9:00- 10:00pm    Beginner Salsa On 1 running as scheduled
10:00- 11:30pm Salsa Social Practice Time running as scheduled

Monday, September 06
6:30- 7:30pm     Intermediate NY Salsa On 2 running as scheduled

Tuesday, September 07
6:00- 7:00pm There will be no Beg Int Salsa On 1 class- Salsa practice time instead

NEW SEPTEMBER CLASSES

We have some exciting classes planned for you this September! Here they are:
(All classes are held at Cafe Casablanca, 2524 Bridge St- $2 min charge at the cafe)

NEW YORK SALSA ON 2
NY Style Salsa (Mambo) is danced to the rhythm of the congas and the techniques used allow for quick turns and direction changes, complex partner patterns and more body movement while dancing on a crowded dance floor.
FUNDAMENTALS- Wednesdays 6:30- 7:30pm- Ongoing- Start anytime! No dance experience or partner required!
$10 drop in, $45-5 class punch card or $40-5 week series starting Sept 22.
This class will introduce you to the essentials by starting with the basic steps and moving through to basic partner combinations. Learn to move your body to the rhythm of Latin music and practice leading and following techniques to get you ready to move to the next level. This class is designed for brand new dancers, dancers of other styles wanting to switch to On 2 and experienced On 2 dancers that want to keep working on their techniques.
BEGINNER INTERMEDIATE- Tuesdays 7:00- 8:00pm Starts September 21 Must have completed the Fundamentals classes and have instructor permission to move on. No partner required.
INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED- Mondays 6:30- 7:30pm- Ongoing- Start anytime! Must have instructor permission to join. No partner required.

LA SALSA ON 1
LA Style Salsa is one of the newest forms of salsa having been developed in the late 1990's with a strong Hollywood influence. This style is characterized by large, flashy moves and is based on variations on the Crossbody Lead.
BEGINNER- Thursdays 9:00- 10:00pm- Ongoing- Start anytime! No dance experience or partner required!
$10 drop in, $45-5 class punch card or $40-5 week series starting Sept 16.
This class will introduce you to the essentials by starting with the basic steps and moving through to basic partner combinations. Learn to move your body to the rhythm of Latin music and practice leading and following techniques to get you ready to move to the next level.

INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED- Thursdays 8:00- 9:00pm- Ongoing- Start anytime! Must have instructor permission to join. No partner required.

BACHATA
This all levels class will teach you the basics you need to have a great dance and then add some sexy new moves to your Bachata repertoire. Learn to dip & sway your way into a dance to remember! WARNING- This workshop is going to get sexy!!!
ALL LEVELS- Thursdays 5:00- 6:00pm- 5 week series starting Sept 30 $40-5 week series by pre-registration only. No drop in permitted. No partner or experience required! This series is by pre- registration only.

NEW YORK HUSTLE
Come and learn the basics of this fun dance that originated in the 70's and has a lot in common with Salsa!!
ALL LEVELS- Wednesdays 5:30- 6:30pm- 5 week series starting Sept 08 $40-5 week series by pre-registration only. No drop in permitted. No partner or experience required! This series is by pre- registration only.

PERFORMANCE TRAINING CLASS (held at Club Phoenix, 2122A Government St)
Ever dreamt of being part of a touring dance group? Ever imagined yourself on an international stage? Ever wanted to improve your dancing while having fun? Join the dancers from all of our teams in this performance training class. This class will include footwork, partnerwork, social dancing, stage presence, choreography and a practice audition to get you ready for the auditions on November 24th and you will have the opportunity to perform the choreography you learn at out Christmas party! You can take the class without doing the audition, but everyone that auditions will be offered a spot on one of our teams for the 2011 season.
ALL LEVELS- Wednesdays 8:00- 10:00pm- 10 week series starting Sept 15 $160 10 week series/2 hours per night. Pre-registration only. No drop in permitted. Requirements: A passion for dance, a willingness to learn & work hard, a positive attitude, the ability to work as part of a close group, a strong sense of commitment. No partner or dance experience required!

SALSA DEL BARRIO RADIO SHOW

Tune in to Christina's radio show Salsa Del Barrio on UVIC's station CFUV 101.9 fm. The show airs every Saturday from 11:00am to noon and features interviews with local and international Salsa dancers and musicians, the history of Salsa music and dance and lots of great Salsa music!!!
